Necessity of Loving Prophet(صلى الله عليه وسلم)

In these present times, some people due to their misunderstanding consider the immense love for our beloved Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)  equivalent to shirk. In spite of the fact that lovers of Prophet (Peace be upon him) consider him to be an “Abd (Slave) of Allah” and they have no intentions of comparing the Prophet (Peace be upon him) to Allah azza Wajjal (Naudhobillah), the comparison only comes due to ill thinking of opponents who look for ways just to accuse Muslims of Shirk and Kufr but what they forget is that their false takfir would return back upon themselves  rather than it being applicable on the accused.

Let us Analyze this in light of Quran and Hadith

Allah says, “Say: ‘If it be that your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your mates, or your kindred; the wealth that ye have gained; the commerce in which ye fear a decline: or the dwellings in which ye delight – are dearer to you than Allah, or His Messenger or the striving in His cause;- then wait until Allah brings about His decision: and Allah guides not the rebellious.” (9:24)

This is an Explicit “Nass (definite proof)” in Quran that Allah and his Prophet (Peace be upon him) should be dearer to us than everything in the world i.e. our wealth, children, parents etc… Some people use this verse in regards to Jihad only but they forget that loving Prophet (Peace be upon him) is mentioned before that, hence even Jihad without the love of Allah and his Prophet (Peace be upon him) would “not be” Jihad in cause of Allah, rather it could lead one to hell fire instead.

Allah says: “All who obey Allah and the apostle are in the company of those on whom is the Grace of Allah,- of the prophets (who teach), the sincere (lovers of Truth), the witnesses (who testify), and the Righteous (who do good): Ah! what a beautiful fellowship(4:69)

The Reason Behind Revealing this Honorable Ayah

Hafiz Ibn Kathir: Ibn Jarir recorded that Sa`id bin Jubayr said, “An Ansari man came to the Messenger of Allah while feeling sad. The Prophet said to him, `Why do I see you sad’ He said, `O Allah’s Prophet! I was contemplating about something.’ The Prophet said, `What is it’ The Ansari said, `We come to you day and night, looking at your face and sitting by you. Tomorrow, you will be raised with the Prophets, and we will not be able to see you.’ The Prophet did not say anything, but later Jibril came down to him with this Ayah,

(And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger then they will be in the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His grace, of the Prophets), and the Prophet sent the good news to the Ansari man.” This Hadith was narrated in Mursal form from Masruq, `Ikrimah, `Amir Ash-Sha`bi, Qatadah and Ar-Rabi` bin Anas. This is the version with the best chain of narrators. Abu Bakr bin Marduwyah recorded it with a different chain from `A’ishah, who said; “A man came to the Prophet and said to him, `O Messenger of Allah! You are more beloved to me than myself, my family and children. Sometimes, when I am at home, I remember you, and I cannot wait until I come and look at you. When I contemplate about my death and your death, I know that you will be with the Prophets when you enter Paradise. I fear that I might not see you when I enter Paradise.’ The Prophet did not answer him until the Ayah,

(And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, then they will be in the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His grace, of the Prophets, the true believers, the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are!) was revealed to him.” This was collected by Al-Hafiz Abu `Abdullah Al-Maqdisi in his book, Sifat Al-Jannah, he then commented, “I do not see problems with this chain.” And Allah knows best.

Greater news than this is in the authentic Hadith collected in the Sahih and Musnad compilations, in Mutawatir form, narrated by several Companions that the Messenger of Allah was asked about the person who loves a people, but his status is not close to theirs. The Messenger said,

(One is with those whom he loves.) Anas commented, “Muslims were never happier than with this Hadith.” In another narration, Anas said, “I love the Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr and `Umar, and I hope that Allah will resurrect me with them, even though I did not perform actions similar to theirs. Allah said,

(Such is the bounty from Allah) meaning, from Allah by His mercy, for it is He who made them suitable for this, not their good deeds.

It is related that a man came to the Prophet and said, “Messenger of Allah, I love you more than my family and my possessions. I remember you and I cannot wait until I can come and look at you. I remember that I will die and you will die and I know that when you enter the Garden, you will be raised up with the Prophets. When I enter it, I will not see you.” Allah then revealed,

“Whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, will be with those whom Allah has blessed: the Prophets, the men of truth, the martyrs and the righteous. And such people are the best of company!” (Quran 4:69) The Prophet called the man and recited the verses to him.

    Hadith #9

Narrated Anas: The Prophet did not come out for three days. The people stood for the prayer and Abu Bakr went ahead to lead the prayer.(In the meantime) the Prophet caught hold of the curtain and lifted it.When the face of the Prophet appeared we had never seen a scene more pleasing than the face of the Prophet as it appeared then. The Prophet beckoned to Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer and then let the curtain fall. We did not see him (again) till he died.

Narrated Sahl bin Sa’d As-Sa’idi: Allah’s Apostle went to establish peace among Bani ‘Amr bin ‘Auf. In the meantime the time of prayer was due and the Mu’adh-dhin went to Abu Bakr and said, “Will you lead the prayer, so that I may pronounce the Iqama?” Abu Bakr replied in the affirmative and led the prayer. Allah’s Apostle came while the people were still praying and he entered the rows of the praying people till he stood in the (first row). The people clapped their hands. Abu Bakr never glanced sideways in his prayer but when the people continued clapping, Abu Bakr looked and saw Allah’s Apostle. Allah’s Apostle beckoned him to stay at his place. Abu Bakr raised his hands and thanked Allah for that order of Allah’s Apostle and then he retreated till he reached the first rowAllah’s Apostle went forward and led the prayer. When Allah’s Apostle finished the prayer, he said, “O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from staying when I ordered you to do so?” Abu Bakr replied, “How can Ibn Abi Quhafa (Abu Bakr) dare to lead the prayer in the presence of Allah’s Apostle?” Then Allah’s Apostle said, “Why did you clap so much? If something happens to anyone during his prayer he should say Subhan Allah. If he says so he will be attended to, for clapping is for women.”

Love for the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and yearning for him (صلى الله عليه وسلم)

    Hadith #11

Abu Huraira reported so many ‘ahadith from Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) and one among them was that Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) is reported to have said: By Him in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, a day would come to you when you would not be able to see me, and the glimpse of my face would be dearer to one than one’s own family, one’s property and in fact everything. This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ishaq with a slight variation of wording.

The hadith of ‘Umar, “I love you more than myself,” has already been cited. There are similar things from other Companions.

Amr ibn al-As said, “There is no one I love better than the Messenger of Allah.”

Abda bint Khalid ibn Ma’dan said, “Khalid never went to bed without remembering how he yearned for the Messenger of Allah and his  Companions among the Muhajirun and Ansar, and he would name them. He said, ‘They are my root and branch, and my heart longs for them. I have yearned for them a long time. My Lord, hasten my being taken to You!'”

It is related that Abu Bakr said to the Prophet, “By the One who sent you with the truth, I would be happier if Abu Talib (the Prophet’s uncle) were to become Muslim than if Abu Quhayfa (his own father) were to. That is because the Islam of Abu Talib would delight you more.”

Umar ibn al-Khattab told al-Abbas, “Your becoming a Muslim is dearer to me than al-Khattab becoming a Muslimbecause it is dearer to the Messenger of Allah.”

  3.

The virtues and rewards of this love:

    ·  Allaah says that which translates as: “And whoever obeys Allaah and the Messenger – those will be with the ones upon whom Allaah has bestowed favour of the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of the truth, the martyrs and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions.” (An-Nisaa’: 69).

‘Aa’ishah, may Allaah be pleased with her, reported that a man came to the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and said: “O messenger of Allaah! You are dearer to me than my family, my children and even myself. Sometimes I am sitting in my home and I remember you, and then I am overwhelmed with the desire to come and see you. When I think about your death and mine; I realise that when you die you will at the rank of the Prophets in paradise, but I fear that if I enter paradise, I will not be able to see you.” ‘Aa’ishah, may Allaah be pleased with her, continued: “The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam did not answer this man until Allaah revealed this verse (given above).” (At-Tabari and others).

    ·  Anas bin Maalik, may Allaah be pleased with him, said that a man asked the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam: “When will the (last) hour come?” He sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam replied: “What have you done to prepare for it?” The man replied:”Nothing, except the love I have for Allaah and His Messenger.” The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam replied: “You will be(on the Day of Judgment) with those whom you love.” Anas bin Maalik, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: “We (his companions) never rejoiced at anything more than his words, when he said “You will be (on the Day of Judgment) with those whom you love.”’ Anas, may Allaah be pleased with him, continued: “I love the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, may Allaah be pleased with them both, and I hope to be with them (in the Hereafter) due to my love for them, even if I cannot do (the same amount of righteous deeds) as they do.” (Bukhaari, Muslim and others). In another narration the man said (in response to the Prophets question of what he had done to prepare for the last hour): “I did not prepare for it with many prayers, fasting or charity.”

Imaam An-Nawawi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said commenting upon this Hadeeth: “The man’s words mean that he did not perform many optional acts of worship.”

Ibn Hajar, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said “The saying of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam: “You will be with those whom you love” means ‘You will be joined with them and be in their company’. If someone were to ask: ‘How can they occupy different ranks yet be together?’ We would answer that being in paradise fulfils the pledge that they are together, but not necessary at the same rank.”

Imaam An-Nawawi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: “This Hadeeth points out the virtues of loving Allaah, His Messenger and the righteous, whether dead or alive. It clarifies that it is not a condition to perform the same acts in order to benefit from loving them. Another virtue of loving Allaah and His Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam is that it will lead a person to adhere to their commands and refrain from what they prohibited.

    ·  Ibn Mas’ood, may Allaah be pleased with him, and others narrated that a man came to the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and said: “O Messenger of Allaah! What do you say about a man who loved some people yet did not do what it takes in order for him to be with them (in the hereafter” The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam replied: “One will be with whom he loves”(Bukhaari, Muslim and others).

Al-Mubaarakfoori, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said commenting on this Hadeeth: “This means that if he is sincere in his love for them, then he will join them (in the Hereafter) even if he did not perform the same righteous deeds as they did, due to the closeness of their hearts. Also, perhaps this love could lead to him being like them in the performance of righteous deeds”.

    ·  Abu Dharr, may Allaah be pleased with him, said to the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam: “O Messenger of Allaah! What is the status of a man, who loves a group of people, yet cannot perform the same (righteous) actions as they do?” He sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam replied: “O Abu Dharr! You will be with those whom you love.” Abu Dharr added: “I love Allaah and His Messenger.” He sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam he said: “You will be with those whom you love.” Then Abu Dharr, may Allaah be pleased with him, repeated his statement and so the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam repeated his. (Ahmad, Abu Daawoodand Daarami).

Shaykh Al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said commenting upon this Hadeeth: “The meaning of this Hadeeth is obvious, because it is natural for someone who loves another to be with him. The closeness to the beloved will be proportional to the intensity of love that exists. If this love is perfected then it entails that one must do all that the beloved requests and commands, provided that one is able to do so. The more one willingly differs from ones beloved, the weaker the love is that exists. Loving someone necessitates hating all that they hate all and whom they hate, provided they are aware of this hatred. This is why Allaah says : “You will not find a people who believe in Allaah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allaah and His Messenger…” (Al-Mujaadilah: 22) loving and befriending are from the deeds of the heart. Believing in Allaah necessitates loving Him and His Messenger, which is of course in stark contradiction to loving those who hate and oppose Allaah and His Messenger.”

    ·  Anas Ibn Maalik, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “One who attains the following three things will taste the sweetness of faith: To make Allaah and His Messenger more beloved to himself than anything else; To love a person for no other reason except for the sake of Allaah; And to hate to return to disbelief just as much as he would hate to be thrown into fire.” (Bukhaari, Muslim and others).

Imaam An-Nawawi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said commenting upon this Hadeeth: “This is a great Hadeeth and one of the tenets of Islaam. The scholars said regarding “Would taste the sweetness of faith” that it means enjoining obedience, persevering in order to please Allaah and His Messenger and favouring these over what this worldly life has to offer. The slave will achieve the love of his Lord and His Messenger when he obeys him and refrains from anything which He prohibits.”

Shaykh Al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: “Loving Allaah and His Messenger more than anything else is one of the tenets of Islaam, without which a slave is not considered a believer.”

Al-Baydhaawi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: “The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam stated that these three factors must exist in order for one’s belief to be perfect. If one were to ponder upon the fact that Allaah is the One who created the soul and bequeathed it to man, and that there is nobody or nothing else besides Him that can permit or prevent good from taking place, and that all others beside Him are nothing but mediators (in terms of conveying Allaah’s message), and that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam  was the one who was entrusted with the task of clarifying all that Allaah requires from mankind; then this would lead His slaves to direct themselves toward their Lord completely. This entails that they love only that which Allaah loves, to love only for His sake, to be certain that what he has promised in terms of reward or punishment is true and to imagine the Last day as if it has already arrived. If these matters are achieved, then the slave will feel as if he is in paradise when he sits in the gatherings of remembrance (i.e., the circles in which the names of Allaah are mentioned and praised). It is only then that the slave will feel that returning to disbelief is just as hateful to him as being thrown into fire.”

  4. The little boy who loves Mohammad with words instead of drawing portraits is touching..

And as corallary in the US many people worship an idol of a man once named Yeshua and other translations.. presently Jesus.. as a God.. and never hear his lessons of Truth and Light.. As only the reality of a humble prophet’s teachings..

The real Jesus will never be on Facebook.. With a perfect smile..

i agree with this 100 percent.. And it is the main reason I visit here.. to hear..:)

  5. And now i am out of bed.. a smart phone.. is difficult for me to use still sleepily with one hand in bed.. and now i have two.. so i will share a story with you..

There is a woman named Helen.. she lives in a small town.. she has a Law Enforcement husband.. and she raises two infants at home.. in a small trailer.. a boy and girl..

One day the father says.. go get a job Helen.. i need you to make me more money.. she says no.. i refuse.. i will stay home and take care of my children.. they mean more to me than anything in this world..

He does not accept this so he leaves when the little boy is three and the girl is two.. so Helen moves in with her mother and must go to work..

Well.. the little boy receives all her unconditional love until age 3.. and now the little girl must go to be taken care of by someone else.. lonely in a crib all day long…

The little boy is homesick for his Mother.. when she goes to work.. and he soon enters Kindergarten to learn about cultural ways.. but first.. he looks across the river at his home on the water.. and sees a water GOD that is endless across to the forest.. and realizes he has been here forever with GOD.. before he can even speak at age 3..

Well.. his mother continues to Love him unconditionally.. never any spankings.. only grandmother does that.. with switch from the Apple Tree in yard.. but this boy’s Mother’s Unconditional Love continues to live strong in his bright blue eyes..

So anyway.. he Loves very much and in school.. some girls love him too.. just ’cause he is so nice and with smiling eyes too.. but no.. the boys.. by the time they hit puberty.. will have none of that.. they tell the boy he cannot smile.. so the boy stays sad.. until he grows taller and stronger than the other boys.. so he smiles.. with eyes.. and Loves.. no matter what they say then..

So the boy goes on.. graduating at the top of his class.. gets lonely in college.. as many people struggle at that age.. and the smiles come back when he becomes a giver of shoes.. at a small military Bowling Center.. for almost two decades he serves up shoes.. dirty feet.. smelly shoes.. it is a humble job for an educated boy to do..

So.. church groups often come in.. the boy quits going to church when he gets married and does not go back for 23 years.. but still the now young man smiles.. and sees every person he meets.. as the most important person in the Universe when he smiles at them..

So yes.. leaders of church groups often come up to him and say.. my friend you are the best example of a Christian i ever meet.. all there is about you is Love.. you are like Jesus.. with your healing eyes of Love..

And he says thank you friend.. i no longer go to church.. but i just Love.. the boy still cannot talk much.. he says it all with his eyes.. and bright white smile…

And one day a woman asks the young man.. what is your position here.. and he tells her manager.. as he becomes one by then.. and she’s says oh.. that explains why you are so nice..

And another man asks him.. how long he works there .. and when he says.. almost twenty years.. the man says OMG how can you still be so happy working in the same place so long..

The older man now that still has the smiling eyes.. receives a challenge from GOD.. his only real way to communicate Love with his eyes will change now.. the smiling eyes.. are gifted by GOD with a burning hell fire pain.. that grows into his ears.. where a cricket sounds like a freight train.. and a street light with shades.. looks like the Sun at 3 a.m..

So how will the man Love now.. like his favorite friend Jesus.. his eyes are only pain.. his heart becomes numb.. there is nothing left of the man before..

The man will not get mad at God.. even gifted with 19 medical disorders.. in a synergy.. of life and death JOB’s challenge.. like the bible story.. and his only wish is to die.. to escape the pain.. but God will not let him go.. God has other plans for him..

So one day.. two years later.. the man musters up the strength to tolerate the pain.. and starts writing on a dimly lit screen.. two inches away.. one word is like climbing the highest mountain of pain.. a word becomes a paragraph.. a page becomes a book..

    and now
    there is
    this…

    Love..:)

  6. Hello Soheir:
Very touching…The Charlie Hebdo ‘thing’ was not good for anyone. This turns it around. It mentions it but gets on with what is important and for this boy it is Allah’s perfect smile and the love he feels. It is a message of peace. Great material for your post, Soheir.
I hope all is well with you and your family.
    Cheers.
